Short And Simple Hotel Room Workout
by Yuri in Fitness Training
So you’re on the road, traveling from place to place, living out of a suitcase and retreating back to the sanity of your hotel room every night. I know how it is. Whether it is traveling for pleasure or for business (preferably pleasure, but it happens), traveling can wreak havoc on your workout schedule.
That is why it pays to know how to workout in the privacy and comfort in your hotel room if you can’t make it to a gym. The examples given below are exercises that are pretty easy to complete in just about any hotel room, keeping you in shape until you can get back home and hit the gym or your favorite running route the next day.
(Plus you can order room service afterward. Score!)
Upper Body Workouts
It is difficult to lug around weights in your suitcase (with the exception of really neat collapsible plastic weights that can be filled with water). That is why using your bodyweight is the way to go, because wherever you go, your body follows.
Try these exercises to keep yourself in shape:
- Push ups
- Triceps Blasters
- Planks
- Dips (Use your hotel chair and prop your feet on a desk, nightstand, bed, etc.)
- Dive Bomber Push-ups
Lower Body Workouts
You don’t have to neglect your lower body, either. A lot of people think that you can work out your legs only in a gym, with specialized equipment. You can use your bodyweight to keep your legs in shape just like you can with your upper body, though.
Try these exercises:
- Leg lifts
- Wall sits (Place your back against your room wall and squat so that your knees are at a 90-degree angle. Hold this position, with your back against the wall, as long as possible.)
- Squats
- Lunges
You can also run in place, or even jump rope – if you’re lucky and your room is big enough (or you’re in a high-roller suite in Las Vegas). Both of these are good activities to keep your cardio up while spending the night in your posh surroundings.
The only thing you really have to avoid is having the maid walk in on you and think you’re weird. If this happens, just ask for two towels and stay cool. And then get back to working out.

This is a great post and I would like to add to the list. Most hotels these days are multiple floors with stairwells and most people will take elevators so usually NOONE is in the stairwells so you can run the stairs, stair lunges/step-ups, quick alternating steps, etc… You can get real creative and get an awesome workout in!

Awesome input Jerry. I agree that stairs are great to use. I often use the stairwell in my building when I feel like a cracking leg workout.
