Interval Training Workouts Explained – VIDEO 2
by Yuri in Treadmill Trainer Running
I hope you enjoyed my previous video where we discussed 4 of the biggest challenges standing in the way of many runners and exercisers.
I also showed you (convincingly I think) that interval training is by far the most effective to train if you want to start running, run faster and longer, and burn more  fat.
Today’s video is going to build on the theme of interval training workouts. Specifically, I’m going to show a lot of great tools and strategies to help you create your own interval running workouts as well as the “anatomical” components of an interval training running workout.
So without any further ado, get comfy and get ready to learn.
Enjoy the video…

Hi,
Love the excercise advice, interval training and planks are working wonders for me. I used to waste a lot of time trying to stay in what is called (wrongly, I now think) “the fat burning zone” of heart rate. This is quite a low heart rate.
Now that I have switched to your advice of high intensity interval training, I am seeing a real difference in the fat on by whole body. i also spend half as long in the gym because I get the job done much faster at a higher intensity – which makes it more likely that I go to the gym because there is no boredom factor. There is no time to get bored!

This video is choppy even if I put it on pause and let it download a while. I see gray bar indicating more is downloaded than what I am listening too. It is insanely choppy. Just thought I would leave the feed back. Maybe you could find a better way to stream. I don’t have this problem with others.

Nevermind. It worked when I went back a 3rd time….Maybe it was on my end. =)

I liked this video a lot. The only suggestion: loose the repetitive background music. It is distracting and makes the words harder to hear and understand.

Hi Yuri
This is an excellent video as well as the 2nd one. I can’t wait for the 3rd one. I am approaching 54 next month and have always been a keen runner in the 5K to 8K range and have always taken an interest in reading and learning as much as i can about putting a running programmes together. I think yours is the best. ( Including the music in the background) Unfortunately 2 years ago i had a serious injury which put me out of action for nearly a year, came back last March gradually and injured my calf and achilles last November, i am still recovering as i keep re injuring myself. Spoke to my Doctor (GP) for the first time who is also a keep fit enthusiast this morning and agreed with him on what i need to do gradually. The reason i am saying this is because i am going to use your measured approach with the ratios you indicated in your video, as well as the rehab routine that i agreed with my Doctor. As a result of your video and suggestions, feel more confident about my running future.
Keep up the good work

Yuri,
Thank you for all the great information that you share so generously with everyone. It is so clear, interesting and helpful. I can’t wait to hear more. One little thing though – I found the background music too loud and too intense. Probably great music to run to, but not as good for listening and learning – just my opinion.

Thanks Martha. I’ll tone down the music in future vids.

Very informative. Have some questions on running surfaces and do the shoes really make a difference?

Ideally, we are best off running barefoot on grass. But unless you live in the jungle that’s not an option for most people. I’m a fan of simple shoes that don’t over-support the foot. However, I have a foot that allows for that. You’re best off getting your gait and feet checked out by a foot specialist and then make a decision about your shoes based on that.

Loved it – I am only a beginners so it cleared up some big misconceptions for me. Don’t like the loud music though, I would much rather concentrate on what you are saying. Also, can we send you an email to ask specific questions. I am in Australia and tried some months back when I found your email, but it just bounced back. Come on Yuri, us Aussies are interested in what you’re saying and have some questions we’d like to ask! PS: since visiting your site I now cheer for Australia & Canada in the winter olympics.

Thanks for your feedback Susan. I’ll change up the music in future videos as many people have said the same. I also love Australia since I have family there and it’s like Canada of the southern hemisphere! Go Canada and Australia.

Great video and very informative. Interval training has improved my running pace tremendously. i try to interval train at least twice per week. I’m running a half marathon on March 21st and hope to finish in my fastest time yet.
Thanks,
