3 Ways to Help Lose Your Gut

by in Truth About Abs

gutGuys, this post is for you!

Don’t worry women, you can benefit from it too.

But I want to talk to the guys today because I know that there are so many of you out there that are hitting your head trying to figure out how to lose your gut, right?

I’m going to show you 3 simple ways to do so.

.

1. Put Down the Beer

Let’s get real. If you’re serious about getting a flat stomach then you cannot be pounding back pints of beer on a daily basis. I know far too many men whose ritual it is to come home from work and crack open a cold one (or 2 or 3 or more) before even eating dinner!

Considering that just one beer typically has about 150 calories – from carbohydrates (like wheat, barley, etc..) – just drinking one per day means that you are consuming an 1050 calories per week, everything else being the same.

That’s ONE pound of fat (3500 calories) in just 3 weeks from drinking one beer per day OR 7 beers in one evening out with guys.

The choice is yours but you need to get your priorities straight.

2. Train Like Your Favourite Athlete

It’s funny how so many guys love watching sports but don’t take the time to consider how their favourite athletes get in such great shape.

Consider a guy like Tiger Woods. Sure he plays golf – not a sport traditionally known for building great bodies – but he has worked his butt off “training for his sport” to get ripped abs and chiseled muscles.

In fact, he’s packed on 30 pounds of muscle since joining the pro tour several years ago. And he hasn’t done so by sitting on a bench doing countless sets of biceps curls.

Neither have world-class sprinters, or football players, or hockey players!

They train specific to the demands of their sport which means that they train full body movements – not individual muscles!

This is an important concept to understand if you want to lose your belly because full body exercises involve ALL of your muscles, which means that you burn more calories and build more lean muscle in the process.

Doing thousands of sit-ups is not the way to go and will never help you burn belly fat. But start adding full body exercises like deadlifts, squats, squat presses, cleans, and many others into your workouts and not only will get a heck of a lot stronger but you will a heck of a lot more fat!

Here’s one of the athletic workouts I’ve used with the soccer team at the University of Toronto:

3. Don’t Eat Late

This is biggy – no pun intended.

If you have the tendency of eating late at night then that’s something you’re going to want to stop doing. Again, I’m assuming you’re serious about losing your gut, right? Otherwise, you wouldn’t be here.

Eating late at night is a big mistake because unless you are going to go for a midnight workout, those extra calories will be stored as fat. Assume you come home late and hit the fridge or panty for some nibblies like cookies or chips. And you eat them until you’ve consumed 500 calories.

That’s an extra 500 calories that your body will be burning while you sleep. What your body doesn’t burn, it stores.

The other benefit of not eating late is that you actually get much better sleep and wake up feeling more refreshed in the morning.

Considering that the science shows that there’s a link between lack of sleep and weight gain, this may be something you want to consider.

Here’s a tip…

If you’re hungry late at night drink a big glass of water. If this doesn’t help then make a small smoothie that your body can easily digest.

One of my favourites includes a handful of spinach, 1 banana, 1 apples, lime juice, some hemp seeds, and water. Good nutrition in a glass that is easy on your stomach.

I hope these 3 tips on how to lose your gut have been helpful and I really hope that you start taking action on my recommendations.
