Mental Trick to Reach Your Fitness Goals

by in Mindset

I just got in from a run and I needed to write a post about a really cool mental trick that I used to get me through the run.

Now you can apply this trick to any area of your life. The goal is really about focusing on things that will empower you and thus make you stronger and cause your body to push through what you thought were insurmountable barriers.

So what’s this mental trick to reaching your fitness goals that I used on my run?

Empowering incantations!

Here’s what I said to myself during the second half of my run (the point at which that little voice in my head was saying “It’s okay, you can stop. You’ve done enough!”)…

“I’m healthy, strong, and energetic”

I just repeated that to myself over and over again and felt it as true.

It’s amazing how your body can respond when you shift your mental focus.

Instead of saying, “Oh my god, I’m so tired. I can’t possibly finish this” my entire body “believed” that I could push out of my comfort zone to reach my goal.

The other thing that helped during my run was the fact that it was raining. I love running in the rain. Combined with my relentless incantation (or affirmation if you like) I was in a zone where nothing could distract me – not the intermittent construction, random cigarette smokers, the smell of garbage – nothing!

Near the end of my run, when my body was really starting to feel it – especially my right hamstring – I used a different incantation that went like this…

“My muscles are strong. My heart is strong. My lungs are strong. My mind is strong!”

For some people this may sound wishy-washy but believe me…it’s not!

I’ve used these kinds of mental tactics for a long long time. It’s because of these kinds of constant empowering messages that I believed that I was the best soccer player in Canada (at the time when I played).

And it’s the same mindset work that I know will help me achieve ANY goal I set my mind to.

You can too!

Remember, your mind is your playground.

Feed it empowering thoughts and you’ll be able to achieve any fitness or life goal you set your mind to!

Go for it.
