Biggest Belly Fat Loss Mistakes
by Yuri in Truth About Abs
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen commit what I like to call the biggest belly fat loss mistakes.
Just going to the gym each day I see countless people continue to make the same errors over and over again. Apparently, the ab exercises they think they’re doing are supposed to help them lose stomach fat and get firm abs.
Wrong!
So what are these BIG belly fat loss mistakes?
I’m going to give you 3 of them.
Top 3 Belly Fat Loss Mistakes
1. Using seated twisting abdominal machines
I’m sure you’ve seen those machines that sit on, adjust the weight stack, and then begin to twist your torso until the cows come home right?
I guess some people think that twisting somehow burns love handles???
Well, it doesn’t! And neither does that machine.
If anything it puts tremendous torsional strain on your spine, especially since you’re in a seated position.
Sitting and twisting are the 2 most strenuous activities you can put your back through. Hey, if your goal is to wear down the integrity of your spine and eventually have a herniated disc, then by all means continue doing this exercise.
If you want to lose belly fat and get rid of your love handles, then that’s not the way!
2. Doing 1000s of sit-ups
If you’ve read any of my posts, you’ll know that I keep saying that isolated abdominal exercises do nothing to help you lose fat around your belly. They will help you tone your rectus abdominis and other ab muscles, but that’s about it.
You certainly won’t be able to see them if they’re covered by a big layer of fat.
SIT-UPS DON’T BURN FAT!
There is some new evidence that shows that muscular development in a specific area may displace fat cell accumulation in that area, but I have yet to see that in real life.
If you’re after belly fat loss, then the goal is really total body fat loss.
You can’t spot reduce. You need to burn maximum calories and sit-ups and crunches simply don’t help.
3. Eating whatever you want
Diet plays a critical role in losing stomach fat. In fact, it may be even more important than the exercise portion of the equation.
If you think that you can eat whatever you want and just burn off those calories in the gym, well you’re dead wrong!
For some reason, our society has conditioned us to believe that if we exercise, then we deserve a treat. That kind of thinking only leads us to weight gain and at the very best maintaining the status quo.
If you want to lose belly flab, then you need to watch your portion sizes, reduce your calories by about 15-20%, and eat whole natural foods. Even better, if you can follow a raw food diet, you will greatly enhance your chances of losing weight quickly.
Those are just 3 of the many “abs” mistakes I see people make each and every day.
