I just got in from an intense fat loss interval training workout.
But hold on…my goal isn’t to lose weight.Â
Oh yes, the goal is to burn fat – not just lose weight. We’re all good.
I was in the mood for an intense running workout. It’s been a few days since I last worked out (not good) and today I was just in the mood for an exhilarating, adrenaline pumping workout.
So I plugged in my ipod and hooked up with one of my favourite interval training workouts – my very own Treadmill Trainer Volume 4.
I originally developed the workout for half marathon runners – considering the length of the workout is 74 minutes – but that doesn’t mean that you can’t benefit from its awesome fat burning effects.
I ran for just over 32 minutes, completing sections 1-3.
Here’s what my interval training run looked like:
0-10 minutes – warm up at my talk test pace
10 – 20 minutes – progressive tempo runs where the pace is increased by 1-2% every 2 minutes.
20 – 32 minutes – interval section #1 comprising of 2 x 5 minutes @ 85% max speed with 2 minutes to recover in between each one.
The reason that interval training is so good for fat loss is that it allows you to run (workout) at a much higher intensity than you could in one all out effort.Â
As such, it much more effective at burning calories than “lighter workouts” and the part that I find most exciting is that high intensity intervals leave you feeling so alive and energetic when you’re done!
